Subject: Donald Trump is threatening war crimes
Reply-To: Public Citizen <president@citizen.org>
Attacking civilian populations or infrastructure is a black-and-white violation of the laws of war that were established by the international community after World War II.
Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, and the Trump regime are threatening war crimes in their illegal assault on the people of Iran.
- In fact, elementary schools, universities, medical centers, bridges, and other non-military targets in Iran have already been bombed, with numerous civilian casualties.
- Over the past few days, Trump has ranted about attacking additional civilian targets — including more bridges, power plants, and “the entire country” — if Iran doesn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 p.m. EDT tonight.
- For example, here’s an utterly deranged social media post Trump spat out on Easter Sunday (there is some language here we would not normally reprint, but we think it’s worth showing exactly what the American president said in this instance):
- “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
- Trump has also threatened to attack Iran so severely and indiscriminately that its entire populace will be taken “back to the Stone Ages, where they belong” and that it “will take them 100 years to rebuild.”
Trump’s threats to the people of Iran are illegal, immoral, and insane. The American people must denounce what Trump is doing in our names.
- And just this morning, Trump posted that a “whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
To Donald Trump:
You are knowingly and willfully threatening and committing war crimes against the people of Iran. As president of the United States, everything you do — legal or not, justified or not, moral or not, effective or not, good for America or not — you do in the name of the American people. Well, we hereby say “Not In Our Name!” when it comes to attacking civilian populations and infrastructure as part of your illegal war against the people of Iran.

Thanks for taking action.
