This week was an embarrassment for FBI Director Kash Patel, but making matters worse is the degree to which this wasn't an especially unusual week for him. |

WHAT'S ON RACHEL'S BLUESKY RADAR |
- this is insane.
"CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — The FBI issued an updated statement on Wednesday after Idaho News 6 questioned the agency's denial that children were zip-tied during a federal raid at a horse track in Wilder on Oct. 19.
Earlier, an FBI public affairs officer sent an email to Idaho News 6 stating, "Reports suggesting children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets during the October 19 FBI-led operation in Wilder are completely false."
During coverage of the raid, Idaho News 6 obtained a photo showing a 14-year-old U.S. citizen in zip ties. The newsroom sent the image to the FBI in response to the initial statement.
The FBI later replied with an "updated statement" that said, "Reports suggesting young children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets during the October 19 FBI-led operation in Wilder are completely false."
Idaho News 6 followed up to clarify what age is defined as a "young child," but has yet to hear back. This story will be updated as more information becomes available."" (Idaho news 6)
- "A Houston teenager who is a U.S. citizen was beaten, choked and subjected to racial slurs when masked officers chased him and his father in an early-morning immigration-enforcement action, a local immigrant-rights group said Monday.
Arnoldo Bazan, 16, was on his way to school Thursday when an unmarked car pulled his father, Arnulfo Bazan, and the teen over. The teenager said during a news conference that he and his dad were pulled over by a car with no clear indication it belonged to law enforcement. The officers who approached did not identify themselves as law enforcement and wore uniforms that bore no official insignia, he added." (Houston Chronicle)

- "Many older callers and people with disabilities are calling at the darkest moments of their lives. Coming away without answers feels even more devastating.
In August, 65-year-old Katrina Stirn found out tumors from her Stage 4 breast cancer were growing more aggressively.
Stirn was forced to think seriously about what might happen after she died. She lives alone in Wake Forest, North Carolina, Stirn said, with no children, grandchildren or other family to help. The funeral home and the executor of her will, Stirn realized, would probably need to reach Social Security to confirm her death.
So Stirn began calling — and soon found herself stuck in a maddening routine.
She would sit down at the desk in her bedroom at about 11 a.m., hoping to catch employees at a slower point in the morning. She would place the call and be sent to a hold queue almost immediately. She would put the phone on speaker and find ways to pass the time: Yoga. Deep breathing. Folding the laundry.
She waited for hours each time, but never got through. After her sixth call failed, Stirn decided she'd had enough: She would not be phoning again." (Washington Post)
- "One Social Security worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, said many of those she has called back don't even answer the phone because it has been hours or even weeks since their initial call..."
