Following a record-setting fundraising haul, Vice President Kamala Harris secured the support of a majority of Democratic delegates to become the party's nominee for president. Harris's official nomination will be made on Monday when the vote closes. Harris is expected to announce her running mate any day now, ahead of plans to hit the campaign trail with her vice-presidential pick next week. Meanwhile, Donald Trump's appearance on Wednesday at the National Association of Black Journalists convention went almost immediately off the rails after Trump insultingly questioned Harris' racial identity and doubled down on his bigoted line of attack on immigrants taking "Black jobs," while repeatedly insulting Black journalists. The disastrous conference provided a temporary distraction from his vice-presidential pick, Sen. JD Vance, who has spent the past two weeks floundering in the spotlight with his controversial statements over "childless cat ladies." On Monday, President Joe Biden called for an overhaul of the Supreme Court with new reforms that would target presidential immunity, term limits for Supreme Court justices and mandatory ethics rules for the court that focus on financial disclosures and conflicts of interest. Later in the week, Biden and his administration celebrated the release of three Americans, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, and one U.S. permanent resident in a historic, multinational prisoner exchange with Russia. Missed something? Don't worry. Here are our select columns and videos from the week. And don't forget to check out MSNBC.com for more. |
