The Supreme Court concluded a historic term on Monday morning by issuing its final batch of rulings, including an astonishing and consequential decision in Trump v. United States. The court determined that former President Donald Trump has some immunity from prosecution in his federal election interference case, adding another obstacle to special counsel Jack Smith's taking the case to trial. The 6-3 ruling along ideological lines not only represents a crushing blow to the efforts to hold the president accountable, but also radically reshapes the power of the presidency in a way that could have lasting consequences for American democracy.

Mike Quigley of Illinois and Angie Craig of Minnesota, have since joined the growing list of Democrats who are calling on Biden to bow out of the race.
Earlier in the week, Trump ally Steve Bannon began serving his four-month sentence in federal prison for defying a congressional subpoena. Another Trump ally, Rudy Giuliani, was barred from practicing law in New York over his repeated 2020 election lies. While Americans celebrated their Independence Day, the United Kingdom cast its votes in a historic parliamentary election, which proved a sweeping victory for the Labour Party, putting an end to 14 years of Conservative Party rule.
