After more than nine hours of deliberation over the course of two days, a Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records, making him the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes. With Trump's sentencing date set for July 11, just four days before the start of the Republican National Convention, major questions remain unanswered about Trump's legal and political fate, its impact on the 2024 election and the country's future at large. However, one thing that remains clear is that Trump and his army of allies are not going to go quietly, as evidenced by Trump's post-verdict press conference, when he peddled familiar, baseless conspiracies about the case and continued his attacks on the judge, jury and rule of law. In a letter to Congress, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito rejected calls to recuse himself from two pending cases involving Trump and Jan. 6 rioters, after facing scrutiny over reports that flags were flown at the Alitos' homes similar to those carried on Jan. 6. Chief Justice John Roberts also rejected Senate Democrats' request to meet to discuss ethics issues involving the Supreme Court. On Friday, President Joe Biden outlined a new three-phase proposal to end fighting between Israel and Hamas, including a total cease-fire, the return of hostages and rebuilding of Gaza. The proposal came after the White House said Israel's deadly airstrike on a tent camp for displaced people in Rafah last weekend did not cross President Biden's "red line." Missed something?
