Donald Trump's hush money trial is headed toward closing arguments on Tuesday, after both the defense and prosecution rested their cases without the former president taking the stand. In other Trump legal news, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon held two hearings in the federal classified documents case — but still refuses to set a new trial date.
Over in Arizona, Rudy Giuliani and nearly a half dozen others accused of attempting to interfere in the 2020 election were arraigned. Republican National Committee "election integrity" lawyer Christina Bobb was among the group of alleged schemers, all of whom pleaded not guilty. Meanwhile in Georgia, another hotbed of Trump legal drama, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Judge Scott McAfee both won their respective primary races.
Splitting his time between the courtroom and the 2024 campaign trial, Trump hosted a campaign rally in the Bronx. In an ill-fated attempt to appeal to Black voters, Trump invited rappers accused of murder to join him on stage and later went on to exaggerate the turnout — bigly.
Elsewhere, Justice Samuel Alito has found himself in yet another flag controversy. The history of the controversial "Appeal to Heaven" flag seen flying outside Alito's beach house in 2023 is chilling. And in a Thursday ruling authored by the justice, the court sided with South Carolina Republicans in a racial gerrymandering case. But don't expect a decision in Trump's immunity case anytime soon.
