When Samuel Alito was nominated for the Supreme Court, he told Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy that he felt Roe v. Wade was settled law and that he would uphold precedent, according to a new book. Kennedy didn't buy Alito's assurances and still voted against his confirmation. "That was wise," Jessica Levinson writes, given that Alito would decades later author the decision that overturned Roe entirely.
